We Confess our Sins to God
Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 7:14; Joel 2:12-17
Prayer of Confession
Pastor: O Lord, we confess that we have sinned against you in our national councils by failing to formally acknowledge in our founding documents that we are, and of right ought to be, a Christian nation.People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, we have elected into office many men and women who neither in their personal lives nor in their public capacity purpose to conduct themselves according to the rule of your word.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, we have recklessly pursued a course of de-christianizing our laws, intentionally removing ourselves further and further from a biblical basis for law and government.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, we confess that under the guise of freedom of choice we have legalized the killing of the unborn; and the blood of 50,000,000 innocents cries out to you for vengeance.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, we are a nation which is morally adrift; we have embraced every form of sexual deviancy and seek to justify it as simply an alternate life-style.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, the church is much at fault in all of this, for we have strayed from the authority of Scripture, and “teach as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:9)
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, many of the sinful practices which we could name as being committed by the world are committed even by your own people, so that the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of us. (Romans 2:24)
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, the body of Christ is divided into many factions, and we lack that love and unity in the truth which our Lord Jesus Christ said ought to characterize his church.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: O Lord, forgive us; forgive your church; and forgive our nation of our many sins.
People: Spare your people, O Lord, and make not your heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations. (Joel 2:17)
Hymn of Praise
Lord have mercy on us
Come and heal our land
Cleanse with Your fire, heal with Your touch
Humbly we bow and call upon You now
O Lord, have mercy on us
O Lord, have mercy on us
We Thank the Lord for His Blessings
Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 29:10-13
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Pastor: O Lord, you have blessed our country like you have blessed no other nation in the history of the world.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: You inspired our nation’s forefathers to come to these shores, for the purpose of finding the freedom to worship you according to the teaching of Scripture, to preach the gospel to a people who had never heard it, and to establish a society founded upon your word.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: You brought our forefathers safely to the new world amidst much danger.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: You preserved them as they passed over perilous seas, and as they encountered hunger and thirst and devastating illness and natives which sometimes proved hostile.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: You helped our fathers to establish colonies in which the reign of our Lord Jesus Christ was recognized. They used the Bible as the basis for the laws which they enacted. They sought to win the Indians to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. They built churches and schools that for many generations served you faithfully.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: When the time came to forge a new and independent nation, you raised up good and wise men—godly men—who looked to you for help. And you helped them.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: You gave them victory in war, and wisdom to frame a form of government that in the hands of good men would provide for liberty and justice.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: You have prospered us beyond any other nation and have defended us against all our enemies.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pastor: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage. (Psalm 33:12)
